T.G.I.F.

I am so glad it's finally Friday.

Baby Signing.
I finally got one of the 2 books I ordered, in the mail yesterday. It was Sign with your Baby by Joseph Garcia. My friend Jen, who signs with her baby Ethan recommended it.
I am anxiously awaiting Baby Signs: How to Talk with Your Baby Before Your Baby Can Talk by Linda Acredolo, Susan Goodwyn, Douglas Abrams that my friend Ashlee , from C.H.O.I.C.E.S. recommended.

I am so excited to get started signing with her. Apparently she is at the perfect age: 7 months.

Some of the benefits of signing with your baby are:

*Signing allows your infant to clearly communicate specific thoughts.

*Signing reduces frustration for your baby and for you.

*Signing won't delay verbal language development; in fact, it may accelerate it! Research shows that babies who sign usually begin to speak sooner and develop larger vocabularies than non-signing babies.

*Signing reinforces verbal language by added visual and kinesthetic emphasis to auditory input.

*Signing children tend to be more interested in books.

*Signing builds on babies' natural tendency to use gestures.

*Signing can help parents and pediatricians identify injuries, pain, and other ailments.

*Signing children can direct parents' attention toward potential dangers or concerns.

*Signing may actually improve a child's IQ!

Have a great weekend everyone! Has anyone seen the snow? It's missing here in Indiana.

My cousin used signing with one or both of her daughters and had great success with it. I think you will have to go back to Denver for the snow!!! It's 75 degrees in Norfolk, VA today. I think the weather is crazy everywhere right now.

Happy signing! We LOVE it around here, it's so nice to be able to communicate, less frustration... and I really think it's why X is such a great talker so early!

I miss the snow, too!!! I didn't get into the signing like I had hoped. I love watching Xavier's signs, though!

Hi Staci... I do wish I had wee ones, I would be signing also. I think it is a beautiful part of the attachment style parent world (something that you never grow out of!) and can add a great deal of JOY to your household. As for the snow, I see we may be getting some in the upper/South Bend'ish area...who knows!! I think weather men just throw darts in the morning to perdict the weather! :0)
Have a Silly Weekend!

I should try some signs with dd. I tried with my first daughter but she didn't catch on and I just let is go.

No snow. I'm both looking forward to it and dreading it. I don't like being cold but it's so pretty...

I used the book by Garcia with my son and also he's really loved these videos at www.signingtime.com they are really great.

Even though he's now two and he talks pretty well we got him a few more for Christmas and it's amazing how well it puts it all together for him and all of a sudden he'll sign and say a word. It's amazing how signing really makes the connection for them.

HI! I found your blog while doing a search. I use the Garcia book as well, and teach Mommy and Me classes using his curriculum in Indiana.
I like your blog. :)
