How Ever Will I Do It?

How will I be able to raise my daughter to be a lady, in this society?

I hate shopping. I know, I know. Weird. I shop only when it is absolutely necessary. And since I discovered online shopping, really the only time it is necessary, is groceries.

I hate shopping because it reminds me of everything I despise about this world. Teen girls in short, shorts with "naughty" written across the bum, complete with a too-snug tee shirt banishing "My moms thinks I'm at the library". Teens on cell phones. Belly rings, glitter. Rows upon rows of plastic made-in-China toys.. Screaming, demanding children "I want thhhhhat!!!!!" All of this, topped off at the checkout, with racks of magazines of scantily clad women, and Paris Hilton worship. Did I mention the non-verbal cashier? I leave most stores as if they were on fire.

I won't even talk about the "keeping up with the Jones's" plague.

How am I going to raise my daughter to be a lady, in this society?

In a society where bad girls are good....and good girls are.. weird.

Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

I have been doing a lot of self examination lately. How I dress. How I speak. What I say. How I react to things.

I know everything I do, my little ones are watching. My daughter is watching.

And I know, that more is caught, than taught.

Yes, YES! Amen. She will watch your example, and if she honors and respects you, which will be a direct outcome of your godly training, you WIll raise her to be a lady. I daresay she is, already.

Keep up the wonderful work - and LOOK up, always. To His example.

I know the feeling. With three daughters I feel so overwhelmed sometimes. When my 10 year old says her friends (same age) spend all afternoon calling thier boyfriends on thier cell phones, I want to scream!Boyfriends?! Cell phones?! My 7 year old wanted to be a mommy two years ago, not she is thinking about a "carreer" in teaching, because everyone asks her what else she wants to be when she grows up.
Its so hard. But every now and then one of the girls will snuggle up next to me and talk about future babies and homes. They will talk about sewing projects. They will talk about something they learned from Bible reading and I will sigh, and think one day at a time, my Jesus!
We must always be on guard for our sweet little girls. Thanks for the reminder.

Yup yup yup. I agree.

Someone gave us a huge box of shorts and jeans for Ellie and good grief, some of those shorts just had a seam for the crotch- there was no length at all to them! It's crazy. :(

Two of the neighbor boys are 8-10yo and carry cell phones. We have a 6yo girl who spent an hour or two on several occasions IN OUR HOUSE before I ever met her mother. I would freak if my daughter was in a stranger's house.

It's a crazy world for sure.
